Thank you for your interest in Healing Hearts Northwest!

We appreciate your interest in Healing Hearts Northwest. Our organization began in 2009 and became a 501c3 in 2012. We have made 5 trips to Kigali, Rwanda and completed 82 surgeries. The above documents include information about our team, Rwanda, and our goals to help Rwanda establish an independent cardiac surgical program.

With approximately 40 people each year, we contribute to the cardiac healthcare of Rwanda. This includes procuring funds and in-kind donations to allow us to perform 16-17 open heart surgeries each year. We ship approximately 6000 pounds of equipment and supplies each year. Our staff is primarily from the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene area, but also includes staff from many other states. Each staff is responsible for their own flights and use vacation time to join our efforts. Without the support of our staff, our community, and our medical sponsors we would not be able to provide this care.

Our patients are as young as 10 and as old as 54. The average age is 20. The majority of patients have rheumatic heart disease which has destroyed the valves in their heart. We replace these valves which allows these patients to return to a productive life of work, care giving and education.

We see gratitude and appreciation from the patients who are selected and their families; and the knowledge that our efforts teaching and mentoring brings the country one step closer to self-sufficiency in the future. This guide is intended to give you an understanding of our organization and the work we do.

We hope these documents will answer most of your questions. Please feel fee to contact us at any time and we will ensure your questions will be answered.

Thank you!
